Plymouth Rock Studios has selected Waverly Oaks golf course as their preferred site for locating the film studio. While no “official” dollar amount has been released it is rumored that the property was sold for $12 million. The town has assessed the property value at $5.1 million. The removal of Waverly Oaks from the public golf scene in Plymouth should mean increased play at other nearby Plymouth and Cape Cod golf courses.
Brittany Weddell of Buzzards Bay, the Massachusetts State girls high school champion has qualified for her second USGA national championship making the cut at the U.S. Junior Girls championship. The Bourne High School senior now moves on to the finals July 21 at Hartford Country Club. Weddell shot 76 at Winchester to qualify.
Cummaquid Golf Club’s Mary Chamberlain continues to make a name for herself by capturing the New England Womens Golf association Championship at Abenaqui Country Club in Rye, N.H. The James Madison University junior fired a closing round of 2-under par 70 to win by three shots.
Pocasset Golf Club’s clubhouse renovation has been completed. There are new locker rooms and common areas. The dinning room has bee expanded with large windows overlooking the eighth hole. The outside decks have been covered and are weather resistant.
