Blue Rock Golf Course, designed by renowned architect Geoffrey Cornish, was completed in 1962. It is recognized as one of the best par-3 courses in the country. The Blue Rock course is located close to the Bass River, a tidal river that once was explored by Leif Eriksson. The name “Blue Rock” comes from a granite rock located in the Bass River that has a blue tint to it, and thus the area became known as Blue Rock.
The Blue Rock Golf Course is simply the best par-3 on Cape Cod and was part of the three-course rotation for the Cape Cod Open for six years. How many events do you know of that would ask professional golfers to play a par-3 course and still attract a full field? Golfers competing in the Cape Cod Open were pleased if they played Blue Rock in even par and thankful if they were only a couple over par.
Cornish designed each of the holes to correspond to the average length a player may hit a specific club. There is a 103-yard hole (wedge) and a 255-yard hole (driver) and everything in between. The ninth has often been voted one of the best on Cape Cod. This picturesque hole requires a tee shot of 169 yards, played over water to a kidney-shaped green that slopes back to front and right to left.
Golfers of all levels should make Blue Rock part of their schedule for several reasons. First, it will challenge your skills by requiring the use of every club in your bag. Second, it’s affordable, especially in the afternoon. Third, it takes less than three hours to play and, lastly, it is beginner-friendly. Many players schedule a round at Blue Rock before they play a regulation-sized course. It’s a great tune-up.
Blue Rock Academy has the latest technology used by their professional teaching staff to accelerate student learning. The teaching facility allows players to work on various aspects of their game and then bring the knowledge to the course.
